Wherever you’re located in ministry, it can be really tempting to feel as though you’re on an island. Different ministry scenarios can often leave pastors feeling like, ‘No one is dealing with a situation like this except for me.’ The mentorship program is a great monthly reminder that you are not on an island. In fact, there are pastors who have been there before and are eager to help. 

Jonathan and I usually meet at a diner about halfway between Red Deer and Calgary. On the drive, I usually have time to ponder the questions I should ask him. Jonathan always takes the time to listen to my questions, no matter how many there are or how complex (or simple) they might be. He never fails to offer a good solution based on his ministry experiences. But even more than that, he gives me good advice based on what God’s Word says. 

Meeting with Jonathan monthly has been a huge blessing, reminding me that I’m not alone. I’ve also gleaned a ton of good advice from him. But the best part of our visits has been who he’s consistently pointed me to. Each time Jonathan and I meet, he points me to my Saviour. He reminds me that the same Jesus I get to preach on Sunday is the same Jesus who died for me, too. I need that. Everybody needs that. That alone is what makes the mentorship program so great. 

Through the Pastor Partners program, I haven’t just gained a Christian mentor but a Christian friend. I’m thankful for Jonathan and the mentorship program provided to pastors like me.
